I know it sounds odd, but I love paper. Yep... paper. I cannot resist a stationery store, the smell of pressed ink, the weight and texture of different sheets. I've always loved notebooks, journals, bound postcards. I have bags and boxes of stationery sets (both purchased and received as gifts). You might be guessing that I'm a great pen-pal (nope).
I am lucky enough to have a large family. Every Christmas I try to make something for my relatives (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents... you get the picture). I've done homemade jams, cookies, infused olive oils, heating sacks, etc. Most recently, I made personalized stationery sets. I invested in some gently used stamps and ink pads (thanks eBay) and bought a small paper trimmer from Costco. Using the printer I've had since college (it's OLD), I managed to turn out some pretty decent designs.
I've continued to create sets for friends and family as gifts. I've begun to incorporate patterned cardstocks, ribbons and bows, watercolor paints, and fabric embellishments. I find that when I'm working on a project I feel very satisfied. I absolutely enjoy the time I spend making these gifts.
In order to justify spending as much money on my supplies as I do, I feel like I should try to get some orders--. While I DO sell my cards, I would also love to trade you something for them. What do you create? Jewelry, knitted items, jam, soap, candles, carved items, photographs? If you live in the Portland area, do you have a skill or trade we could barter? Brainstorm... let's get crafty!
